What Are UV Floodlights Used For?

April 27, 2022 5 min read

Floodlights are used to light up an area where there is no natural light, such as a parking lot or a dark alley. They can also be used in the garden to illuminate plants and flowers at night.

Floodlights come in different sizes depending on what you need them for. There are small floodlights that fit into a car headlight housing, medium-sized floodlights that can be hung from a ceiling, and large floodlights that have a pole attached to them. Some people use them to light up their homes when they go out of town as well.

UV floodlights are just floodlights but with UV lightbulbs.

What Are UV Bulbs

UV lightbulbs are different to normal lightbulbs because they emit ultraviolet rays instead of visible light. These rays help kill bacteria and fungi which makes it easier to clean your house. It also helps prevent mold growth and keeps insects away. This type of bulb is usually used in bathrooms and kitchens and for indoor farming.

We need UV bulbs because our bodies produce vitamin D naturally through sunlight exposure. However, if we don’t get enough sun, then we won’t make any vitamin D. If we live in a place where there isn’t much sunlight, then we might not get enough vitamin D. We also need vitamin D to absorb calcium, so without it, bones will become weak and brittle. A UV light can act as substitute to sunlight and overcome these problems.

What Are UV Floodlights Used For?

UV Floodlights are used to provide light in areas where natural sunlight is limited or absent. They are also used to disinfect water.  UV Floodlights are commonly used in commercial settings such as hospitals, schools, restaurants, and retail stores. These lights are used to disinfect water and sterilize surfaces. In addition, they are useful for growing plants indoors.

They emit UV radiation which is invisible to humans, but which kills germs and fungi. Most people who use these lights don't actually see the light itself, but instead, see a blue/purple haze. That's why it's called “fluorescent” rather than “ultraviolet”.

Most UV lights are used indoors, for sanitation purposes. For example, I've seen them used in bathrooms, kitchens, and even offices. A typical installation would consist of several tubes mounted on a wall or ceiling. Each tube

The most common types of UV bulbs include mercury vapor, high-pressure sodium, metal halide, and xenon lamps. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Mercury Vapor Lamps

Mercury vapor lamps are very efficient and last longer than other types of bulbs. They are popular for outdoor lighting due to their ability to withstand extreme weather conditions. They are also very easy to install. Mercury vapor lamps are more expensive than other types of bulbs, however.

High-Pressure Sodium Lamps

These lamps are often used for street lighting. They are inexpensive and easy to install. High-pressure sodium lamps tend to create a yellowish-orange glow. They are less efficient than other bulbs, however.

Metal Halide Lamps

Metal halide lamps are extremely bright and long-lasting. They are also energy efficient. They are one of the best choices for outdoor lighting, especially for sports stadiums and arenas.

Xenon Lamps

Xenon lamps are very bright and efficient. They are also relatively new compared to other bulbs. They are also safe to handle and do not contain mercury. Xenon lamps are used for both residential and commercial applications.

UV Floodlights VS LED Floodlights

UV floodlights have certain advantages over normal LED floodlights.

The main reason for having UV light is to kill bacteria and fungus on surfaces such as walls, floors, etc. It's not really necessary for indoor lighting unless you're doing something like painting a room where you don't want mold spores to grow.

In terms of cost, they are much more expensive than regular incandescent, LED, or fluorescent lights. The average price per bulb is about $2.50-$3.00 each. In comparison, a standard 60W HPS (high-pressure sodium) bulb costs around $0.20 each. This means that a single bulb from an HPS lamp could be replaced with four UV bulbs.

In terms of efficiency, UV bulbs use up to 90% of the electricity consumed by the same amount of light produced by an HPS bulb.

However, UV bulbs cannot be dimmed. So if you want to adjust the brightness of your light, you'll have to replace them with another set of bulbs.

Also, UV bulbs can only be installed vertically. If you need to install it horizontally, you will have to buy a special fixture.

LEDs have become increasingly popular because they produce a lot less heat than traditional bulbs. This makes them safer to handle. They also last longer than conventional bulbs. However, LEDs aren't particularly good at producing white light. You may find yourself needing to purchase additional bulbs to get the right color temperature.

You should note that some LED bulbs are specifically designed for use in UV fixtures. These bulbs are usually more expensive than regular ones.

How Do I Install A UV Floodlight?

If you want to install a UV light, then you should first determine whether you need a floodlight or spot lamp. Spot lamps are smaller and designed to shine directly at an object. Floodlights work better for illuminating larger spaces. You may also want to consider how many fixtures you need.

Floodlights are often installed using a ballast. Ballasts are devices that regulate electricity flow. When installing a floodlight, you must ensure that all wires are connected properly before turning on the power.

Spot lamps are typically installed using either a reflector or a lens. Reflectors focus the light while lenses diffuse the light. Both options

There are two ways to install a UV floodlight: using a mounting bracket or hanging the lamp directly to the wall. Installing a UV floodlight using a bracket is the easiest method. You just screw the bracket into the ceiling and hang the lamp from the bracket. To mount the lamp on the wall, you first drill holes in the wall and then attach the lamp with screws.

UV Flood Lighting Tips

Here are some tips for selecting the right UV floodlight for your application:

  • Choose a fixture that will illuminate large spaces.
  • Consider the number of fixtures needed. If you only have one fixture, then it’s best to pick a small spot lamp.
  • Look for a low wattage option if you plan to use the light for general illumination.
  • Be sure to select a fixture that meets local building codes.
  • Ensure that the fixture can be easily replaced if damaged.
  • Make sure that the fixture is UL listed.
  • Always read product labels carefully.
  • Avoid purchasing a fixture that contains mercury.
  • Keep track of any maintenance issues so that you can get them fixed as soon as possible.

Final Thoughts…

There you have it. UV floodlights are incredibly useful for their antibacterial and germ-killing properties. Having a UV floodlight is like having the sun on a switch. It's great for disinfecting hard surfaces such as countertops, floors, walls, and even toys. So as you can see, it's worth having a UV light.
